Give a gift to the ocean this holiday season

12/23/2015

Christmas, a time when we focus on celebrations and gifts, but also comes a time when we should stop and think and evaluate everything that is important, as our seas and oceans. Consider giving our Mediterranean Sea a gift by keeping your holidays green.

Here are a few basic tips as you gear up for your own celebrations:

Stay awake with the menu.

At this time a lot of fish and shellfish is consumed. For this reason we should check that they have been caught using sustainable and environmentally friendly methods.

Do your holiday shopping with reusable bags.

Plastic shopping bags are among the top 10 items collected each year at the International Coastal Cleanup.

Choose gifts that are environmentally-friendly.

When finding a gift for that someone on your list, make sure to avoid purchasing items that may be harmful to our environment. For instance, stay away from products that contain tiny plastic microbeads, such as certain facial exfoliants. Instead, opt for one of the many available natural options.

Reduce the number of consumer products, sharing or reusing objects.

Exchanging those items you no longer need but someone else you can serve. Have a detail without increasing your money.

Use a reusable packaging.

If we replace the plastic wrap by cloth bags, we bring more style and originality and can continue to use it for the rest of the year.

Carpooling will save your money and the planet.

Riding a bike, walking or carpooling are minimizing the impact of pollution during transport and contribute to stop the damage to our seas.

Happy Holidays!
